Cryptocurrency Tracing

Modified on Mon, 13 Oct at 12:47 PM

Transforms related to cryptocurrency can help trace wallet activity, uncover dark web mentions, and support financial crime investigations. Currently there are four cryptocurrency address Entities supported in Graph (Browser): Ethereum, Bitcoin, BitcoinCash, and Litecoin.

Cryptocurrency Address and Wallet Investigation

  1. Add a Cryptocurrency Address Entity or an Address Entity specific to a particular network such as ETH, BTC, BCH, LTC.*
  2. Run To Wallet Transform to find the associated wallet.
  3. From the Wallet Entity, run Search for URLs mentioning Wallet to discover URLs that mention a given wallet entity and retrieve OSINT context for those URLs. This Transform is intended to help investigators locate web references to wallet identifiers and gather related site metadata and context for further analysis.

* If starting with an ETH, BTC, BCH, LTC Cryptocurrency Address Entity, you have an option to run Enrich Properties Transform. It annotates Cryptocurrency Address Entities (ETH, BTC, BCH, LTC) to add metadata and contextual properties.

Results May Include:

  • Wallet: May include metadata such as wallet type, associated addresses, and transaction history context.
  • URLs where the wallet is referenced.
  • Website metadata such as domain, title, and description.
  • Contextual information to help assess relevance (e.g., forum posts, scam reports, transaction logs).

Cryptocurrency on the Darkweb

  1. Add a Cryptocurrency Address Entity.
  2. Run Search on the Darkweb Transform.

This Transform searches deep and dark web sources (forums, marketplaces, IRC and anonymized sites) for posts that reference a cryptocurrency address and returns textual fragments of matching posts for pivoting and analysis.

Results May Include:

  • Post Fragments: These are snippets of dark web posts that contain the searched cryptocurrency address.
